| In
the tradition of the merchant city of Lübeck, founded
in 1143, the engineer August Brehmer gave in 1901 the
company he established the name LUBECA (the Latin designation
for the Baltic Sea port of Lübeck).
In addition to the production of packaging materials,
the manufacturing of can closing machines for round and
non-round cans was an important component of the company
program from the very beginning. Machines were supplied
for manual or automatic operation as required by the customer.
However, Brehmer realized that the canning industry was
in need of integrated systems. By 1902, he had already
developed complete installations for canning and metal
factories. This became the corner stone for the impressive
complete systems offered by LUBECA Maschinen - und Anlagen
GmbH. LUBECA can closing machines were soon found all
over the world. A permanent exchange of information with
the customers, a keen observation of market requirements
and many years of experience in the production of cans
brought about a diversification in 1938 that revolutionized
the German food industry: the production of large capacity
high-pressure autoclaves. It was now possible to process
and cool thin-walled large-sized tin cans without the
risk of deformation through overpressure conditions that
were independent of temperature.

The horizontally
installed retorts were charged by the use of modern transport
equipment and new cage designs and were able to achieve
capacities that had not been seen before. Near the end of
the forties, through the development of high capacity automatic
closing machines for round and nonround containers, LUBECA
achieved a break through to become an international supplier
to the canning industry.
Further developments in closing machines and autoclaves,
the use of data processing in development, design, production
and process control made LUBECA “A leader of system
technology to the food industry“.
Thus LUBECA became one other worlds leading consultants
in technology to the food canning industry, based on knowledge
and experience of highly qualified employees, assisted by
the application of modern data processing systems.
A continuous exchange of information with customers and
nearly 100 years of experience have resulted in many successful
production lines carrying LUBECA quality. The highest degree
of mechanical engineering coupled with modern computer controls
insure economically efficient and ecologically sound production
for our customers and high quality standards for their products.
LUBECA installations and production lines are in more than
90 countries throughout the world.

Every day they are responsible for
the successful preservation of millions of packed food
items in a multitude of package terms.
In 1989 LUBECA Maschinen und Anlagen GmbH left the Schmalbach-Lubeca
Group and became an independent machine manufacturing
company, keeping all departments for consulting, engineering
research and development, machine manufacturing and service.
All these activities continued when in 1993, LUBECA
SYSTEM SERVICE GmbH became an independent part of the
Maschinenbau SCHOLZ Group. This Group represents today
the largest autoclave production capacity in Europe.
In October 2001 the retort department of LUBECA SYSTEM
SERVICE GmbH was integrated as ‘LUBECA division‘
into the headquarter of Maschinenbau SCHOLZ at Coesfeld.
From there continue the activities in sales other complete
LUBECA retort range, including new development and the
service for the LUBECA retorts all over the world.
